How much will you pay for my residue?

Per tonne, agreed before the first collection. Four things move the price: the type of residue, how wet it is, how much there is, and how far it has to travel. Drier and closer is worth more. The figure goes into the collection agreement, so you know it before anything leaves your land. And the material you pay to manage today (piling, chipping, burning permits) stops costing you money.

Am I close enough to be worth collecting?

Our first site is in Miranda do Corvo, in the Coimbra district of central Portugal, and collection typically reaches 50 to 100 km around it. If you are further out, register anyway: we are mapping residue across the country for the sites that follow, and we will tell you honestly where you stand rather than leaving you guessing.

When does this actually start?

Accepted Answer

We are signing collection agreements now, ahead of our first site opening. Production starts in 2027, and collection begins as the site comes online in your area. Registering early puts you first in line, and we agree indicative terms up front; the price is confirmed after the field visit, because it depends on what you actually have. If you need somewhere for material this season, tell us and we will be straight with you about what we can and cannot do yet.

Question 4

Do I need certificates or paperwork?

Accepted Answer

Very little, and we do most of it. For forest wood we need your FSC or PEFC certificate, your management plan or, if you are a câmara, the fuel-management programme the work is done under. For everything, one signed line confirming the material is untreated and clean, and the parcel it came from named once in the agreement. Everything else (the weight, the moisture, the type, the pickup point) our own equipment will record automatically, so there is no form for you to fill in load by load.

Who collects it, and who pays for transport?

We do, and we do. Within collection range we handle the haulage and the handling; you need the material piled and reachable by a truck, and we agree the schedule around your operation rather than ours. If you sit outside the range, transport is what makes or breaks the economics, so we will tell you plainly rather than let you pay to find out.

What can't you take?

Accepted Answer

Anything painted, varnished, glued or treated with preservatives: that means no demolition wood, no sleepers, no chipboard or MDF. Nothing with plastic, rubber, metal, glass or general rubbish mixed in. No sawlog-quality timber, because good wood should stay good wood. And nothing from clear-cutting or from protected or recently cleared land. Contaminants concentrate when biomass is pyrolysed, so a dirty load costs far more than it is worth.

Can I get biochar back for my own land?

Accepted Answer

Yes, if you want it. Quality-tested biochar returned to your soils holds water and nutrients. The benefit is largest in sandy, acidic or degraded ground, and modest in soil that is already fertile and well structured. We will tell you which you have rather than sell you something that will not help. It is an option in the agreement, not a condition of it.

Do I keep a carbon credit for the residue I supply?

Accepted Answer

No, and it matters that you know that up front. When you sell us residue, the removal happens in our facility and the credit is ours to certify and sell; what you get is payment for the material, the fire-risk work done, and biochar back if you want it. If you want to keep the removal in your own name, that is a different arrangement: we can engineer a pyrolysis unit for your own operation, and the carbon stays with you.
